REVEALED: CELTIC TRIED TO SIGN FORMER CHELSEA STRIKER
It has recently been revealed that Celtic Football Club made an attempt to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa after the former Spain international striker became a free agent. Costa was released by Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club made it clear that they wanted to part ways with him after a spell with them. Costa was not given a new contract extension at the club and it made him available as a free agent, meaning that he could engage in talks with other clubs who are interested in acquiring his services this summer.
Costa felt betrayed by Atletico Madrid after he was told that he would not be getting a new contract extension but he kept training and trying to get another club and he has now done so, with several reports claiming and confirming that he has been signed by Brazilian Serie A side Atletico Mineiro. The Brazilian side have reportedly completed his signing and have also announced his arrival at their club and he would now be available for selection for their next couple of games in the league.
Although Costa ended up signing for Atletico Mineiro, it has now been revealed that the Brazilian side were not the only team that wanted to sign him this summer. According to reports, Scottish Premiership side Celtic showed interest in signing the striker but their interest was not concrete and there were no official talks held between the two parties about a potential transfer.
Whether or not Celtic did have genuine and serious intentions to sign Costa, it is now too late if they still wish to make the deal happen because he is now already in Brazil with his new club and looking to play a huge part in their campaign this season.
