Celtic manager Neil Lennon has acknowledged that Arsenal may make a renewed approach to pursue the services of defender Kieran Tierney. The Scotland international has been earmarked as one of the club’s prime defensive targets for the summer but they have not been able to find the breakthrough with a couple of bids turned down by the Hoops.

Speaking in a press conference, Lennon said that it is normal for the Gunners to come up with another proposal, considering they have a few days before the transfer window closes in the Premier League. He added that Tierney remains an important player in the club’s ranks and he remains optimistic that the Scot will continue with the club for the forthcoming campaign.

He said: "Normally these things tend to happen again so it wouldn't surprise me, put it that way. That's not from personal knowledge of anything, that's just my own experience of things. We know the (Premier League transfer) window shuts on Thursday so if we are talking about Arsenal then they have five or six days to come back in with a revised offer. Apart from that we will continue on and get Kieran back with us and fit as quickly as possible because he is such an important player."

Arsenal have already failed with bids of £15m and £25m for the 22-year-old and reports indicate that there are only a couple of pounds away from sealing a transfer agreement. As such, the north London giants seem to hold a good chance of pursuing the left-sided defender and it remains to be seen whether they can convince the Hoops before the transfer window shuts on Thursday.

Elsewhere, the Gunners have surprised their own supporters with the club-record purchase of Nicolas Pepe from Lille. There could be more spending done for the summer with manager Unai Emery highlighting the need for a new central defender. The club are bracing themselves for the departure of Laurent Koscielny, who has stated the ambition to pursue a fresh challenge.
