Brendan Rodgers react to transfer speculation surrounding three Celtic players
Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers has stressed that he is not worried about the impending speculation linking his players with moves to the Premier League. Moussa Dembele has mostly captured the attention of the English top-flight over the past year, but according to The Mail, the likes of Stuart Armstrong, Leigh Griffiths and Jozo Simunovic are also on the wanted list.
Armstrong is presently a target for Southampton, whilst Griffiths and Simumovic are attracting interest from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively, now that the transfer window has reopened. Rodgers has previously admitted that the club would entertain the right offers for their players, but he is fairly relaxed over the current gossip.
He said: "I’m quite relaxed on it. I think because of who we are and how we play, it is going to attract attention and that attention will ultimately lead to interest in players. You never want to lose your best players, of course. But, like I’ve always said, if any player goes it will be for the market value. That’s where we see it."
The Hoops have been in sublime form since Brendan Rodgers' took over the managerial reigns, and they look on course to claim their seventh straight Scottish Premiership title with the likes of Aberdeen and Rangers far off in team quality to compete for the crown.
Unlike previous seasons, Rodgers' side have something to fight for in Europe in the second half of the season where they have a Europa League campaign which concerns them. The Glasgow giants qualified for the competition via a third-place finish in the Champions League group stage, and they nevertheless face a stiff challenge versus Zenit in the round of 32.
Celtic have not got their act together especially at the continental level, and they need to improve on the defensive side of their game in the coming weeks, if they are to progress any further in Europe's second competition.
